My Work
Nutritionist
& Consultant
College Instructor
Owner & Manager
Quant & IT Analyst
Nutritionist
In 2014 I launched a successful Kickstarter for The Homemaker. The Homemaker offered commercial food products (nut butter + milk) and private labeling for larger enterprises. Products were sold in local markets, Farmboy, Wholefoods, and independent grocers (such as Market Organics, and Rainbow Foods).
Nutritionist
After expanding The Homemaker's product line, I partnered with two other local entrepreneurs to launch Six Cold Press. Located at Slater/Bank downtown, Six served cold-pressed juice and detox regimes. After a year of operations, we sold Six to a local enterprise that grew it to a restaurant in the Byward Market.
Business Consultant
During my entrepreneur ventures, I offered business consulting to other wellness professionals. This included website and brand design, customer relationship management, and point-of-sale services. I earned UX/UI, Infusionsoft, Human Centered Design and IBM certifications, and was a Shopify Partner. This led to being an IBM panelist for local blockchain discussions at Invest Ottawa and lead UX Designer for Arena Blockchain.
Instructor
As a college instructor, I taught a range of nutrition and business courses at the Ottawa Canadian School of Natural Nutrition campus.
Owner & Manager
In 2017 I took part ownership of Healthy Meal Plan (on Bank Street), and successfully transitioned clients and 10 employees through a rebrand. Specifically, the drop-ship production model inspired the development of an application that streamlined highly variable and custom ordering for existing and new clients. I sold my shares in 2018 to pursue a degree and better position myself for a career within Information & Communication Technology design. Vittle continues to experience sustained success.
Quant Analyst
I joined the Sprott Student Investment Fund, that manages a portion of Carleton University's pension portfolio, in 2018. As a quantitative analyst, I leveraged Bloomberg Terminal and Python to initiate a 5-factor rotation model. This was the first quantitative model for the Fund, and saw immediate (and sustained) higher-than-average returns. Despite no previous financial knowledge, I exercised problem solving skills to break down the task and reach the objective of a deployed, real-time, automated model.
IT Analyst
I was offered a student position at SSC in 2019. As an IT analyst, I contributed to the technical specifications for a new information technology service management tool (ONYX), as well as the user acceptance testing and lessons learned of the first release.
IT Analyst
I was offered an opportunity to join CBSA within their technology and innovation hub in 2021. As a student, I became the lead on a remote command centre optimization initiative that lent technical (and human factor) specifications to future infrastructure, including the Gordie Howe project. In 2022 I was offered an indeterminant position, and have since facilitated workshops across multi-disciplinary Agency teams, engaged in direct user research, tested the usability and accessibility of interactive interfaces and hardware (kiosks), and compiled artefacts related to all above activities (including Agile documentation, process flows and mapping, personas + others).
Education
Commerce (Information Systems) Degree
Design Minor
Graduating in 2022 with high distinction, my commerce degree specialized in Information Systems. Coursework included enterprise architecture, programming & query languages (Python, SQL), business and social analytics (SAP, Tableau, Gephi), process mapping (Lucid Charts, MS 365), and organizational leadership. Design work included building and testing prototypes, heuristics and usability analysis, human computer interaction, anthropometrics and technical specifications.
Human Centered Design
I completed IDEO's Human Centered Design certificate in 2018. My certificate project involved applying all learnings to social programming at St. Mary's Home. I engaged in direct user research to produce program design recommendations to better serve young mothers in Ottawa East.
Natural Nutrition
I graduated from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition's holistic nutrition diploma program in 2013. Coursework included human biology and chemistry, extensive practicums, and business courses.
Let's collaborate!
I am excited about challenging & out-of-the-box opportunities within ICT design.
